Ocean conservation in New Zealand
New Zealand boasts some of the most beautiful coastlines and oceans in the world. However, with increased human activity, pollution and overfishing are becoming major problems. Thankfully, Legasea, a non-profit organization devoted to ocean conservation, has been making a significant impact.
Legasea is not just raising awareness about issues facing New Zealand's oceans and marine life. They are also taking concrete steps to combat pollution and overfishing. For example, Legasea has played a key role in helping to create ocean reserves, which are areas of the ocean where fishing is prohibited. These reserves provide crucial habitat for marine animals to thrive and can act as a cornerstone for conservation efforts.
In addition to ocean reserves, protecting coastlines is another crucial step in defending New Zealand's marine ecosystems. Coastal areas provide incubation zones for marine animals and help support biodiversity. To this end, the New Zealand government has established several protected coastlines where commercial activity is limited or banned entirely. Ocean conservation efforts like these are vital for preserving New Zealand's marine ecosystems for generations to come.
Due to the impact Legasea makes, we have selected them as one of our projects to support and donate to.
